My little Monkey lost his mittens...

Has everyone recovered from the Holidays?
I am ... happy??? to report that Monkey's Transformer count is at 6... I'll let you know the final tally at the end of the week, after all of his birthday extavaganzas.
In that quest for knowledge, I have taken it upon myself to learn all about the whole Transformer 'deal'... the good guys, the bad guys, etc. I won't bore you with it, but at least I can say that I've expanded my brain... (with useful information, when dealing with a little Monkey)

So... I'm the bad Mom.
Yep, it's true.
Have you seen the kids sitting on the bench during recess...not allowed to play because they don't have on all their snow gear?
Poor little Monkey had to sit on the bench one day because we forgot his mittens.
I know.
I felt terrible.
At least he had company... apperantly, I'm not the only bad Mom out there. (Thank goodness)
It's just that... well, in the rush of getting off to Preschool...sometimes things are forgotten.
And can I just say... what is with all the lost hats and mittens at school???
Where are they running off too?
I even had another Mom tell me that her son's coat went missing at school.
Um... how?
Anyway- I made a little ... thing... to help out.
I took a scrap of ribbon left over from Christmas.
Hot glued some clothes pins to it.
Tacked it up over his little shelf that holds his snowpants, coat and backpack.
This is temporary, but I think I'll make it a little more permanent for next year.
Paint the clothes pins, and put them on a piece of wood. Make it a little more... substantial.
But for now, this will get us through until the glorious days of Spring arrive.

There is supposed to be another pair of mittens hanging there... but they are... um... in transition. Yes, that is where they are.
Ahem... okay, fine. They are currently ... missing.

The little black shelf is a garage sale find. I painted it this fall (right before school started)
It is hung at his level... as he is responsible for hanging up his coat, backpack, and snow pants.
The little shelf normally holds his show and tell bag.

Can you believe that I had green and red tacks?
I know... how random.
(See... this is why I don't ever get rid of anything)
...which makes Hubby crazy, by the way.
Giggle.

I am linking up to Susan's Met Monday and Kimba at A Soft Place to Land

Hopefully, there will be no more "Monkey sitting on the bench".

  1. My youngest is 11 and the second time he wore his brand new jacket to school, it was gone, never to be seen again! He's like Linus -- messy, disorganized and always losing things. I'm just disorganized -- stuffing things in drawers where they are never to be found again, until after the fact. Oh well! It's a process. Wishing you a wonderful day! Tammy

  2. Very cute post! I remember those days really well which is miraculous since they would have happened over 20 years ago and I normally can't remember what day it is! :)

Thanks for stopping by my blog. Have a wonderful day today.

  3. I hear you on the Transformer thing - my 5 year old is at over 50 of 'em, and just got that huge Devestator transformer for Christmas (which is 6 that combine and make 1 gi-normous transformer). Ugh.
I found your blog from your comment on Funky Junk Interiors today - I know how you feel about the comment thing. I am afraid I am one of those that doesn't always get to all the comments and visit all the blogs. But I am working on making that more of a priority now, because I know how important it is.
Hope you have a great day, and I will come back to visit!

  6. I just found your blog as I was reading Donna's comments at Funky Junk Interiors. I am new to the blogging world too and trying to find my 'voice'. Reading about Monkey reminds me of when my kids were young. :) I'll follow and see what 2010 brings from you!

  7. That is a clever idea! Poor little guy, having to sit on the bench at recess. By the way, your portfolio picture is gorgeous. What a pretty bride hiding behind those roses.

  8. You've come up with a very cute fix for misplaced mittens! Only half come back that I send off to school. I think I OWN the school's lost and found. Heh..

Your blog is adorable. And so are you! I'm happy to have met you this way. :) Thanks for coming by and being a part of the big critique!

  9. I found you through Funky Junk - I'm now a follower! I can so relate to your story! My 4 year old daughter came home from preschool wearing her coat & another little girl's coat. They apparently thought her cute peacoat was a shirt & never took it off of her! Oh the woes of preschool life! I look forward to reading more!

  12. Hi Amy, glad you came by. I really enjoyed reading through several of your posts,

Poor Monkey. I love the way you got his winter gear organized. I'm going to try it for my TEENS! The cookbook with the children's recipes was darling. I have the same table too, well the same pile at least!

Good luck taking back your home. Those hotwheels are formidable opponents. I've been trying to get rid of them for years!
    Hugs,
    Dawn

  15. Hi Amy! Found you through Funky Junk comments and thought I would come over and say hi. That's a very creative and cute solution to your mitten problem. I think painting the clothespins and mounting on a piece of wood would be a good longer-term solution, too. Hope you're having a good week...

  17. I totally understand your job! My oldest daughter is... ummm... UNORGANIZED, to say the least! Over the 4 years she has been in school she has lost countless mittens/gloves, several hats, a lunch box and a PAIR OF SKI PANTS! How do you loose ski pants?!? I went to the school to look through the L&F bins and found 20 pairs of ski pants, SEVERAL coats, and piles and piles of socks, shoes, boots, hats and mittens... apparantely mine is the only unorganized child! :) Visiting from a Soft Place to Land.
